Josh Johnson – Ambassador started the topic Paying Off Credit Card Debt in the forum Manage your debt 6 years, 9 months ago
Going into the new year it was a goal of mine to consolidate debt and work to pay off my credit cards one at a time. I’m down to three with balances, two of which are my travel cards which I use every month to book travel from flights to hotels and cars so their balances will always be coming and going. The third though.. one that I’ve been…[Read more]

Josh Johnson – Ambassador started the topic Buying A Home While Self-Employed in the forum Buy a house 6 years, 9 months ago
Making the big jump, finally, after my lease is up this summer and beginning the process of purchasing my first home. I know that even signing a lease for a new apartment while self-employed can be a little arduous as you can’t show guaranteed income. So I can only imagine how much more strenuous this process will be when it comes to buying a home…[Read more]

Josh Johnson – Ambassador replied to the topic Renting vs owning a car in the forum Manage your debt 6 years, 11 months ago
I’ve been leasing a car for almost 3 years now, and I love it – personally. But I’m also self employed and able to write a portion of that off on my taxes because I travel often for work! I’d check with your CPA to see which option may benefit you more in the long run. Just be aware that if you drive tons for work, especially long distance, that…[Read more]

Josh Johnson – Ambassador replied to the topic Is a Cash-out Refinance a Good Idea? in the forum Manage your debt 6 years, 11 months ago
I know some friends that have done this when they sold a previous house and bought a new one! They were then able to invest the money from that cash out into things they needed for the new home, like a roof and new furniture.

Love the idea of this! Definitely going to have to look into it. I’ve for sure saved money from being on Whole30, but that’s just a by product of everything else I’m doing.

I’m definitely not the best at saving! But I find that inadvertent saving, like being on Whole30, has been a great way for me to save more than usual and allow me to make bigger purchases to outfit my house and things of that nature. Where as before I was spending the money on foods and drinks when I have plenty of food and drinks at home!

Josh Johnson – Ambassador started the topic Gym Memberships in the forum My journey 6 years, 11 months ago
In line with my last post about Whole30 I also joined a gym at the beginning of the year, and while there are definitely cheaper options, like running outdoors for free, but I’m loving the group mentality of going to the YMCA.
I’ve actually sold several friends on the idea because of the added value of a membership at a Y. Our Downtown location…[Read more]

Couldn’t agree more Kathryn! It’s been such a great journey so far. Can’t wait to see how the next few weeks go.

Josh Johnson – Ambassador replied to the topic Is Couponing Worth It? in the forum Grow your savings 6 years, 11 months ago
Coupons, no not in my opinion. But checking the sales for local grocery stores before heading out to shop? For sure!
My friends and I are on Whole30 right now, and we check the ads for all our frequent grocery stops to see where we can pick up staples for cheaper.

Josh Johnson – Ambassador started the topic Whole30 Savings in the forum My journey 6 years, 11 months ago
In typical New Years’ fashion I took on a new diet at the begin of the year, Whole30, and so far it’s been one of the best decisions of my life. Not only for losing weight (which has definitely happened), but for a multitude of reasons. Like challenging and changing my relationship with food, as well as helping me saving some serious dough as I’m…[Read more]

Couldn’t agree with this idea more! Such a great concept, and I do the same myself. I think my years in retail made that habit a little easier.
I cut down to basics every season as the weather changes and donate everything I don’t wear/need to a shelter in my area.

I attended my first yoga class in MONTHS this weekend, and afterwards stuck around for a meditation portion. Because after the crazy year I had last year I know that setting myself up for success in 2018 is of paramount importance.
We started off the meditation class by the instructor asking every attendee to choose a word for their year. No…[Read more]

Josh Johnson – Ambassador started the topic Do Sales Make It Worth it? in the forum Grow your savings 7 years ago
I’ve spent many, many a year working in retail. Even after all those years I’m still not the biggest sale shopper. Even with Black Friday + Cyber Monday deals looming I made a few purchases that I could’ve saved a few bucks on earlier in the week because I honestly didn’t even think about the sales until after the fact.
Something else I’ve also…[Read more]

Well, I’ve been self-employed for almost 3 years now (boy, time flies whenever you’re too busy to realize what is actually going on), and it’s been full of great and amazing times. But also has had its fair share of struggles and challenges. Namely, money issues. Cash flow is never the best whenever you’re first joining the self-employment…[Read more]

Josh Johnson – Ambassador replied to the topic I Asked for Bills to Be Paid for Christmas in the forum Manage your debt 7 years ago
Hah, my parents asked me what I wanted yesterday for Christmas and this SERIOUSLY came at the top of the list. That and a few high tickets items like furniture pieces for my new apartment. I think it’s great idea! And it’s something you actually need not want.

Wasn’t ever a rate shopper until recently, but it’s definitely something I’m paying more and more attention to as I get older! You are right though, it’s hard to find a good one.

Josh Johnson – Ambassador replied to the topic Officially Unsubscribing From Promotional Emails in the forum My journey 7 years ago
I think this is a great idea! I’m way too guilty of clicking through and purchasing things that I get in email that I in no way/shape/form actually need or really wanted until I saw it come through my inbox.
Love that the new iOS offers a super easy way to unsubscribe from these emails directly from your inbox!

I’ve been on the road with a few friends quite a bit lately and being the planner that I am I like to handle the majority of reservations, whether that be for a rental car or a restaurant. Because of that I’m more often than not the one also that ends up putting it on his credit card. Which I don’t mind to do at all (hello rewards credit cards!),…[Read more]

My top money wasters include things like all too frequent trips to coffee shops, ordering that second round of food (that I don’t really need), and over the top purchases on iTunes late at night. Hey, I enjoy watching movies from the comfort of my couch a little too often.
But as I begin to work with a new accountant I realize how MUCH money I…[Read more]

I love, love, love to travel. It’s when I feel the most at home (oddly enough), and it helps me find my creativity all over again. But at the end of the day it’s also a stressor because of the costs associated it with it.
I frequent travel bargain sites like TravelZoo or Groupon and always keep an eye on airlines for sales, but at the end of the…[Read more]
