I totally understand what you’re going through. I tend to be the one making the reservation because I want a good deal and to make sure we don’t wait until the last minute. The problem is my friends would pay me day of the event or ask if they could pay later. It’s not a problem but that means more interest I have to pay in the long run. Here’…[Read more]

Yes! I feel your pain. I’m in a crunch and in need of an increase of income. There’s no room in my budget for error or unexpected expenses. I simply have to put the things I want on hold. It doesn’t feel good to have to scale back on Christmas but I’ve already told my family that my gifts will be small this year and thankfully they underst…[Read more]

Hi All,
Finding outstanding interest rates for bank accounts these days is like finding a needle in the haystack. I’ve never been one to move my savings account to multiple places after finding a better rate. What do you think is best? Are you a rate shopper and always looking to see if they’ve changed?

Antoinette Minor – Ambassador replied to the topic Saving Money On Groceries With Delivery Services in the forum Grow your savings 7 years, 1 month ago
I think this would help so much. I’ve always wanted to do grocery delivery but some services that only give you a few choices or dinner options aren’t the best for my picky eating. I also love that this is a little more instant rather than the grocery story where you may have to order much further in advance. I’m definitely going to check out this company.

The only thing that really has proven to be a good way to save time and time ago is just planning as early as possible. Booking that air travel early seems to be the best way to go.
I also preplan any activities so that I can find the coupons and deals for those things before I go. It helps me stick to a budget as well.

Hi All,
So, its about that time of year to start loving your family up with holiday gifts. I am definitely not in the position to give large gifts this year and every time someone has asked me what I want I just told them they didn’t have to get me anything. My parents asked me if there was anything I wanted or needed in my new apartment and…[Read more]

I agree! I think you make a great point with the rewards programs too. So many people don’t understand how to really take advantage of the rewards without getting caught up in more debt. Worry less about the rewards and more about staying out of debt.

That’s a really good point. It doesn’t have to be financial and you can still help out. I like that a lot better than just giving money.

This is great that you are starting early. I would check with your local banks and see what they have. The credit union I used to work for had a great savings workshop and a list of activities you could do at home with your child. Most importantly, I think parents often focus so much on savings that they miss the opportunity to also teach children…[Read more]

My strategy is to create a list of things I NEED or that I know I want to give as a gift. No browsing or picking up things just because they are on sale. It also helps because you can possibly avoid things that will be sold out. I needed a bed and was able to score a King Size bed for $300! Didn’t have to stand in line or go super early. I just…[Read more]

I can definitely relate to what you are going through. I had many big purchases and unexpected expenses with moving over the summer. I’m just now recovering. What helps is if you revisit your budget. You may be going overboard because you don’t have true numbers for your expenses or even just your allowance. See if that helps 🙂

Hi All,
Do any of you have a budget for how much you donate? I’m building out my plans to volunteer and give back in 2018 but I want to know what you think a reasonable budget is, especially with so many initiatives and Giving Tuesday coming up.
Thanks!

Antoinette Minor – Ambassador replied to the topic Jumbo Mortgages? When are they the right type of Mortgage? in the forum Buy a house 7 years, 1 month ago
I think the best bet is to look at the overall fees and then to use a debt calculator to see how long it would take if you kept the loans separate or if you lumped them into a jumbo mortgage.

You hit my soft spot when you said iTunes… My pitfall is game purchases. I don’t play often but when I do I spend way too much money on purchasing extra “lifes.”

As I am putting things together I’m noticing that decor is definitely a way to make a dent in your budget. As a naturally crafty person I’m not afraid to DIY something that I really want but lately I’ve been noticing that after I buy the materials I’m basically at the same price as the item I originally wanted. For example, faux flowers can be…[Read more]

Antoinette Minor – Ambassador replied to the topic Co-Working Spaces in the forum My journey 7 years, 2 months ago
I had a coworking space and I loved it but when I looked up it just wasn’t worth it. My space only allowed what I needed during 9-5 and I’m still working a 9-5. Also, it just wasn’t close enough to home. By the time I’d get there I would only have a few moments before I’d have to turn right back around and get home. I ended my contract when a big…[Read more]

This is how companies like Nasty Gal were started. Finding deals for dirt cheap and then turning them for profit. I never thought of trying something like this myself but looking into trying ecommerce. I think I might give this a try!
