Antoinette,
That’s such a great idea! For those of us with our own businesses/part-time side hustles, it’s important to remember that we need to be investing in our businesses and that means having some savings available in order to do so! I’m guilty of not having a separate savings account for my side-hustle, but I never spend all the money I…[Read more]

Kayla Buell – Ambassador started the topic This Month's Savings Goal: Packing One Meal A Day in the forum Grow your savings 7 years, 6 months ago
After my mortgage, I definitely spend the most money on food. What can I say? I really like to eat! Anyway, given that I work really long hours and I’ve got an hour commute to the office, my mornings are pretty hectic and I’m very bad about prepping all my meals ahead of time. That usually means that I’m buying breakfast and lunch on the go Monday…[Read more]

I love this so much! Sometimes a no-spend week can be a little intimidating, but a no-spend day once a week is totally doable. I love that it’s the same day each week too so it’s easy to remember. Even if you’re saving $15 or $20 that day, in a month, that adds up! I’m totally going to start doing this! Just not on Fridays. Fridays are my splurge days! 🙂

OMG how exciting! That’s definitely a huge accomplishment! Like Stacey said, now you can actually relax and enjoy your vacation, since you won’t be stressed about paying off the trip later. Love that you purchased EVERYTHING beforehand and factored each of those components into your savings goal. VERY VERY smart lady! I think I need to take a look…[Read more]

Maybe I’m crazy, but I’m the opposite lol. I LOVE saving – to the point that it’s actually a bit of a problem. My hubby loves to spend, while I prefer to put money away, but it’s all about balance, right? Soooo yea, I’m working on that! I get so much satisfaction from looking at my accounts and seeing that I have a really nice cushion. And when I…[Read more]

Kayla Buell – Ambassador started the topic That's It…I'm Doing It…I'm Paying Off My Furniture in the forum Manage your debt 7 years, 6 months ago
Hey guys! So a little over a year ago my hubby and I bought a new house which meant that we needed to buy some new furniture. After all was said and done, we put a little over $3,000 on a 0% interest credit card from the furniture store. Up until now, we’ve been paying $200 a month to pay off the card, but I’ve finally had it! I don’t want monthly…[Read more]

Kayla Buell – Ambassador replied to the topic How much is that doggy in the window really going to cost me? in the forum My journey 7 years, 7 months ago
I don’t have a dog, but I do have a cat. He’s almost 7 years old, but unfortunately, he developed kidney issues even at his young age. What does that mean for us? Well, it means that 3 times a week we have to give him an IV with fluids to keep his organs functioning correctly. I love that little dude and right now, we can still afford his…[Read more]

SUCH A GREAT LIST, Suzanne! I especially love #6! I’m a big proponent of establishing that credit because if you plan on doing anything even remotely adult-ish in the near future, you’ll need to have good credit. But don’t get sucked into the game of credit cards. Like you said, only buy things that you can afford, and pay it off in full at the…[Read more]

Kayla Buell – Ambassador replied to the topic 7 Reasons You Should Take A “No Spend Month”? in the forum Grow your savings 7 years, 7 months ago
OMG I’ve heard of no spend months and I think the concept is so wonderful! Don’t know that I could go a whole month without spending any money, but I think the hubby and I could at least last a week! It’s amazing how much stuff we end up buying on the weekends that we don’t really need, so I think I’ll schedule one of these no spend weeks in the…[Read more]

So my hubby and I are 12 weeks pregnant with our first child and while we’re OVER THE MOON EXCITED, we’re also super scared! Sure there’s the whole taking care of a little human thing, but then there’s also the expenses associated with it! Since the baby’s not due until December, we still have about 6 months to grow our savings. Both my husband…[Read more]

Credit cards tend to get a bad reputation these days, but if you ask me, I think they can be wonderful. I think that if users are smart and use credit cards responsibly, you can actually benefit from using cards that offer awesome rewards. My hubby and I have the Barclay Arrival Plus Credit Card, and it’s been my favorite so far. We basically pay…[Read more]

Yes! Love this! Acorn is really cool because when you think about it, how many times do we just give away our loose change? Loose change is a pain so if you’re saving all of that money automatically, IDK, I just think it’s a no-brainer. I’m personally a huge fan of Ebates because I shop online a lot. Now before I checkout online, I’ll look to see…[Read more]

I’m 26 years old with $60k in my retirement account – one of my greatest accomplishments to date. Now I don’t say that to brag, but I do like sharing my story because I know that if I can do it, then you can too. I started working at a big corporation when I was 19 years old and I think my starting pay was $11.11 an hour. My paychecks weren’t…[Read more]

Kayla Buell – Ambassador replied to the topic Wedding Bells – How do I keep this at a minimum? in the forum Manage your debt 7 years, 7 months ago
Wow! That definitely sounds a little stressful. I got married a little over a year ago and we kept our rehearsal dinner to only out of town guests and immediate family. I think we had about 30 people total… don’t think it was more than that. We did host it at a restaurant with a fixed price per person for a 4 course meal, but one of the things…[Read more]

Thanks so much for sharing your story! I’ve heard of the 52 week savings challenge, but it’s one of those things that I’ve never gotten around to doing.
