I love to save money wherever possible, but when it comes to coupons, I don’t think the time and trouble is worth it. I used to clip them but when the time came, I always ended up leaving them behind or not finding the coupons I needed in my big stack of coupons! I’d rather shop somewhere that has low prices.
I’d love to know if anyone has found…[Read more]

I never heard of Raise.com before! You guys are full of good ideas. Thanks for the tip, Kelby, and thanks for asking the question, Antoinette!

Wow, Kayla, I was just talking with my sisters about doing this! They weren’t on board with the concept – it’s hard to break the shopping habit – but I think it’s a great way to save money and also be more mindful in general, and appreciate what we have.

Couldn’t agree with this idea more! Such a great concept, and I do the same myself. I think my years in retail made that habit a little easier.
I cut down to basics every season as the weather changes and donate everything I don’t wear/need to a shelter in my area.

I attended my first yoga class in MONTHS this weekend, and afterwards stuck around for a meditation portion. Because after the crazy year I had last year I know that setting myself up for success in 2018 is of paramount importance.
We started off the meditation class by the instructor asking every attendee to choose a word for their year. No…[Read more]

In 2018, one of my goals is to save money in every possible area of my life. One area that I’ve really been slacking in over the last twelve months is food — specifically at the grocery store. A few years ago we saved a lot by using coupons, but it was a lot of work and planning involved. I’ve considered trying it again this year, but don’t know…[Read more]

A little over a year ago I tried (what I believe was) a capsule wardrobe and only kept somewhere around 30-ish items of clothes for several months. I loved it, but somewhere along the way I began adding a few items here and there, and now my closet is pretty much back to the way it was when I started out. I just finished re-watching the Minimalism…[Read more]

I remember that time very well! With both of our daughters, we cut back on everything that wasn’t absolutely essential. Saved us a ton and we actually continued a few of the habits once things were financially back on track.

Every January I go through my closet and separate clothes I haven’t worn in forever to donate to GoodWill. Today, I started that process, and it was shocking to me to see how much clothes I didn’t even remember I had – some pieces worn just once.
It’s crazy how much money we can spend on clothes. With every new season, there are tons of new…[Read more]

Happy New Year everyone! I’m not a huge “new years resolutions” kinda gal, but I do like to enter the new year with a financial plan to tackle over the next 12 months. This year will definitely be challenging for my husband and I as I’ll be staying home to take care of our little one and our income will be much less than what we’ve been used to.…[Read more]

I love the idea of gifting kids money or some kind of investment that will grow in the future. I can’t wait for our little one to get old enough to understand the basic concepts of saving up for things and teaching her financial lessons along the way!

How cool! I didn’t know you could sell gift cards online. That definitely makes sense. No point in holding onto a card that you’ll never use when you could trade it in for something else.

Now that I’ll be taking care of our newborn, I’ll be cutting back on my hours meaning we’ll have a whole lot less income coming in. For that reason, we’ll be taking a much closer look at our budget and reducing as many unnecessary costs as possible.

I’m not really big on New Year’s Resolutions, but I do use New Year’s Eve as a chance to reflect on the things that went well over the last 12 months (and try to double-down on that which I had control over), as well as identify the things that didn’t go so well. Two major points of emphasis from my time of reflection have been to create…[Read more]

I would sell it. Have you ever tried Raise.com? I’ve never used the service, but from what I can tell it may be a good way to sell the gift card you’re not using for cash and you can even buy a discounted gift card to a store that you typically shop at.

I agree! I think I’ll just hold on to the gift card for a while and see if a better opportunity presents itself in the future.

Hi All,
I’m not usually someone who holds on to gift cards. The ones I have gotten are typically for stores that I like or for things I really need. Recently, I got a gift card a few months ago for a housewarming gift and I just can’t seem to find anything worth purchasing in this store. Would you hold on to it until you can use it or sell it? I…[Read more]
