My mom moved out of the state so I no longer have a built in babysitter for my dog. Me and the dog are just sad without her but now I’m finding that I need additional help with my pup. I’ll be going away for a conference and I’m paying my little cousin to house sit/watch the dog.
I’ve always budgeted for her health care and grooming but dog…[Read more]

I choose to make donations through my business for the tax credits and it also helps to avoid taking money out of my personal accounts. It also makes me think about the initiative and if it fits well with my brand. Even if you don’t have a business its still good to think about yourself as a brand and what that brand would support financially. If…[Read more]

My grandmom always thought of homes as an investment and never a “forever” decision like many people. Its an opportunity to build wealth. With that said, I think if you’re not tied down to the house so much emotionally then go ahead and sell. I would look into other areas that are affordable and wouldn’t eat up the money you earned or a an area…[Read more]

Stacey I think the holiday fund is a fabulous idea. I don’t have a large family but Christmas always seems to creep up on me so I put money aside so I’m not in a bind during that time.
Other than that I have auto transfer to a savings and its totally come in handy on more than one occasion! It pays to pay yourself first especially when you don’t…[Read more]

Thanks Kayla! I was so grateful that a lot of things were donated and Craigslist/Facebook Market has actually been a gem. I found some great stuff just by looking at posts from people in more “affluent areas.” They were basically giving things away.

So great that you’re thinking about this! As a self-employed person for the last 11 years, it took me a long time to tackle my retirement plan.
I found Vanguard’s small business site (and its comparison between the options) to be super helpful. It breaks down the advantages and the eligibility requirements for the various types in an easy…[Read more]

A little over seven years ago, my wife and I bought the house that we currently live in. At the time, the purchase was driven by a few things. 1.) The character of the home (a ’70s ranch style with plenty of space), 2.) the cost (around $100k), and 3.) the close proximity to my in-laws (which is actually not as bad as it sounds). But here’s the…[Read more]

Antoinette, I would love to have that type of health insurance. Josh, it is like they say, “Better to pay the farmer than the pharmacist.” 🙂 Kayla, It is nice that companies have begun to realize that healthy employees are good for the balance sheet. My school has brought in a yoga teacher for us to have free yoga classes on campus after school.…[Read more]

Couldn’t agree more with this! While eating healthy and staying on top of your health and wellness may seem expensive. It’s definitely a lot cheaper than having to pay outrageous medical bills.

I just participated in a local event yesterday dubbed #GiveForGoodLou where several organizations around town used grassroots efforts to attempt to raise money, meet goals, and share their message.
While I had several friends involved in more than a handful of the organizations involved I only chose to donate to two of them. Money, after all,…[Read more]

I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately about the hype of cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Litecoin, etc.), and have to admit that I’m taking the leap and trying my hand at. I mean, why not, right?
Based on the growth of Bitcoin it looks like the industry is headed upward, and while I’m not ready to take the plunge and buy Bitcoin as each share of it…[Read more]

I’ve heard of this strategy before but never really understood. This may be the best explanation I’ve come across. I think this strategy definitely removes the work and guessing game out of investing.

Hi All,
I have plenty of things from my old place to take to my new place. I’m really happy to be taking it out of storage and freeing up some cash! Anywho, I realized that I’m still in need of a few things that I need or that I gave away during my last move. I really wasn’t thrilled about purchasing all new kitchen items. Even though plates and…[Read more]

I’m writing this today from Hoover, Alabama, as my hubby and I evacuated our home in Miami Florida last week to escape the potential damage of Hurricane Irma.
