This is a tough one. I wonder whether you can identify two or three regular expenses that you can eliminate, and then put the resulting savings into your retirement fund directly? I know, it’s easier said than done…
For me the first sacrifice would probably my cell phone bill. I have a pretty indulgent plan and I could save a hundred dollars a…[Read more]

Hi Josh! I’ve been in your position, and I admit I’m usually too embarrassed to remind my friends to repay me. This is NOT a sustainable situation, on my budget!

I’ve spent many, many a year working in retail. Even after all those years I’m still not the biggest sale shopper. Even with Black Friday + Cyber Monday deals looming I made a few purchases that I could’ve saved a few bucks on earlier in the week because I honestly didn’t even think about the sales until after the fact.
Something else I’ve also…[Read more]

Well, I’ve been self-employed for almost 3 years now (boy, time flies whenever you’re too busy to realize what is actually going on), and it’s been full of great and amazing times. But also has had its fair share of struggles and challenges. Namely, money issues. Cash flow is never the best whenever you’re first joining the self-employment…[Read more]

Josh Johnson – Ambassador replied to the topic I Asked for Bills to Be Paid for Christmas in the forum Manage your debt 7 years, 5 months ago
Hah, my parents asked me what I wanted yesterday for Christmas and this SERIOUSLY came at the top of the list. That and a few high tickets items like furniture pieces for my new apartment. I think it’s great idea! And it’s something you actually need not want.

Wasn’t ever a rate shopper until recently, but it’s definitely something I’m paying more and more attention to as I get older! You are right though, it’s hard to find a good one.

I think this is a great idea! I’m way too guilty of clicking through and purchasing things that I get in email that I in no way/shape/form actually need or really wanted until I saw it come through my inbox.
Love that the new iOS offers a super easy way to unsubscribe from these emails directly from your inbox!

I’ve been on the road with a few friends quite a bit lately and being the planner that I am I like to handle the majority of reservations, whether that be for a rental car or a restaurant. Because of that I’m more often than not the one also that ends up putting it on his credit card. Which I don’t mind to do at all (hello rewards credit cards!),…[Read more]

Over the last 48ish hours, I’ve probably received over 500 emails from retailers I’ve subscribed to in the past. SAVE NOW! HURRY THIS OFFER WON’T LAST LONG! 50% OFF BLACK FRIDAY WEEKEND! That’s literally all I’ve seen in my inbox for days. And you know what? Reading those e-mails has cost me money because yea, I’m a sucker for a good deal!

I’m on the Dave Ramsey plan and yep – that’s what he teaches. Pay off debt before contributing to retirement. I’m currently in the same boat because I’m contributing to retirement and still have about $12k of debt left to pay (my car). I’m trying to convince my hubby to temporarily stop our retirement contributions until we’ve finished paying off…[Read more]

I’ve been contributing to some sort of retirement plan since I started working at 18, even before I had any understanding of what I was actually investing in. I guess that’s because based on conventional wisdom (read: what your parents strongly encourage you to do) you should start saving for retirement as soon as humanly possible.
And I get…[Read more]

I’m with Kayla. I’ve had the same savings account for as long as I can remember and the small increase in rate that I might receive by switching banks doesn’t really seem worth the effort.

Oooo a pup on a plane is definitely going to be an extra expense. I have a lot of friends who swear by AirBnB to save money on their out-of-town stays. I think that sites like Groupon and Living Social also have pretty good deals on hotels too. As far as flights go, I just try to book as far in advance as possible, but I haven’t done much…[Read more]

Goodness I’ve had the same savings account since I was like 16 years old lol. When it comes to my regular banking accounts (checking/savings) the interest I earn on my savings is so little that I’ve never thought of looking to switch.

Hi All,
Finding outstanding interest rates for bank accounts these days is like finding a needle in the haystack. I’ve never been one to move my savings account to multiple places after finding a better rate. What do you think is best? Are you a rate shopper and always looking to see if they’ve changed?

Antoinette Minor – Ambassador replied to the topic Saving Money On Groceries With Delivery Services in the forum Grow your savings 7 years, 5 months ago
I think this would help so much. I’ve always wanted to do grocery delivery but some services that only give you a few choices or dinner options aren’t the best for my picky eating. I also love that this is a little more instant rather than the grocery story where you may have to order much further in advance. I’m definitely going to check out this company.

The only thing that really has proven to be a good way to save time and time ago is just planning as early as possible. Booking that air travel early seems to be the best way to go.
I also preplan any activities so that I can find the coupons and deals for those things before I go. It helps me stick to a budget as well.
