Part 2: Lower credit card interest rates

    If you saw my earlier post, I did not have much luck lowering interest rates on my current cards. Meanwhile, I continued to receive 0% interest offers weekly. I started collecting them with the idea that I would see if I could get some credit at 0%. Last week I set aside time to compare offers and make calls. I chose the two cards with the longest 0% promotional period (15 months) and started calling. I spent 10 minutes with the first bank and was approved on the spot for $5,500. I then called the next bank. Ironically it was the SAME bank that denied my lower rate on a current card. In less than 10 minutes I was approved for $8,500. In a 20 minute period I secured $13,000 at 0%. With this new rate, I can pay down almost all my credit card debt in the 15 month period and save close to $6000 in interest charges. Time to celebrate… but not too extravagantly.
